Bernina Express – an experience of a very special kind
The Albula and Bernina route of the
Rhaetian Railway is one of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps. A particular high-point of the ride is the panoramic view from the Bernina Express as it descends from Davos past glaciers to the palms of Tirano. The Bernina Express is the classic among the premium trains of the Rhaetian Railway and travels along the highest railway line in the Alps. It connects northern and southern Europe, providing a bridge between various language regions and culture The train makes short work of the 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and slopes of up to 70 millimetres per metre of incline that are found along the route from Thusis to Tirano. Since summer 2008, this section has been classed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Railrider –through Grisons in a yellow Cabrio
Here the Grisons sky seems so close you could touch it, and the gorges look terrifyingly deep. In the Rhaetian Railway’s open-top carriages the rollercoaster becomes a ghost train as it enters the spiral tunnels and up on the viaducts it’s like being in a cable car.
The
Railrider of Chur via Filisur and Bergün to Preda is a particular treat. In the three carriages pulled by a locomotive there is plenty of time to breathe the fresh air and take pictures, for example when the train slows its pace high up on the Landwasser and Wiesner viaduct. The return trip takes you via Davos and Klosters to Landquart. Please note: the Railrider runs on Sundays only from the end of June to the end of September and the number of places is limited.
Gourmino evening trip – dining on the move
Enjoy a gourmet meal in a nostalgic dining car with spectacular, ever-changing views of the Grisons landscape featuring everything from high mountains and lush meadows to weathered farmhouses and contented cows. Hardly has the view been obscured by a tunnel than the train is crawling over the next viaduct. As a veil of fine droplets sprays across the window from a mountain stream in full spate and the sun sinks behind the mountains it’s time to raise your glasses – filled of course with a real Grisons wine from the domain.
The service is smooth, the interior nostalgic and the food freshly prepared. The RailGourmino Swiss Alps AG spoils you with high quality, out-of-the-ordinary railway gastronomy. An exclusive four-course menu is expertly created from a combination of carefully selected regional products. Sit back and enjoy the culinary delights and treasures from the wine cellar.
Climb aboard and treat yourself to a very special experience!
The trip takes place once a week from the end of June to the end of September. The exact times and prices can be found
